Teaching your dog or cat to target (touch) your hand is a great way to not only build confidence in your pet but as a basis for getting them to come when called.
Grab a few piece of kibble and hold it in one hand behind your back. Place your hand about a half an inch away from your pet's nose. The moment his nose touches your hand, say "Good" and reward him with a piece of kibble.
As your dog or cat gets better, you can start to increase distance. Remember if they are not getting it 90% of the time, decrease the distance so they do not get frustrated.
